5 Interesting Films in Pre-Production
The following films have been green-lit, are already in pre-production or have begun shooting. The interesting thread these five films is the social influences they might have on American culture whether from the left or right, conservative or progressive. (Please note that the people listed as attached to each film can change at anytime. Remember “Back To The Future” was already a 1/4 done shooting when they decided to replace Eric Stoltz with Michael J. Fox)
1. Mary Mother of Christ
Well let’s start this list off with a doozy. 8 years have passed since the release of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. The highest grossing independent film in history. The film is graphic, powerful and obviously, chock full of Jesus Christ. A person Hollywood hasn’t touched in a very long time unless it was to make jokes or degrade. But I digress…
The screenwriter of The Passion of the Christ, Benedict Fitzgerald, is one of the writers behind this film. Synopsis is as follows,
“The Film follows Mary, the mother of Christ, from childhood to young motherhood as she struggles with the knowledge of her child’s fate and the sacrifice he will make for mankind. Much of Mary’s early days foreshadow miracles and wonders that Christ performed during his time on Earth.”
This is something that, if it weren’t for the screenwriter, I would hardly believe would ever be made. Hollywood must really be in a financial pickle to green light this one. However, it seems as though a small production company (Aloe Entertainment) is behind this one, again. So unless a major studio picks it up for distribution, they are gonna lose out on lots of American cash, again.
So far, attached to star as Mary is Camilla Belle a child actress who, as she get older and prettier, books more work. Big names include Al Pacino as King Herod. And after Jack & Jill, Al seems to be looking for his own forgiveness and redemption. Peter O’Toole and Julia Ormond round out the rest of the cast announced. No word on Jesus yet, but I hear he’s coming.
Luis Mandoki is signed on as director. He’s has a few thrillers under his belt as well as some early Mexican dramas and a documentary on Mexican political corruption. This should be interesting.

2. Supremacy
Pre-Production has apparently begun on a new film staring former Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover.
The left-wing activist has signed on to the film Supremacy. According to industry reports the film is about…
“the true story of a white supremacist cop-killer who holds an African American family captive in their own home.”
I don’t know about you but anytime I see a white-supremacist character on TV or film they usually end up vocalizing ideas the same way a conservative would. Ideas that a “mainstream” liberal would never say in a film. Thus, once again, equating racists with conservatives. This is just proof that in what should be a post-racial America, the left is obsessed with continuing the narrative that racism is still a main problem in our country. Regardless that a Black American is in the White House. This also just goes to show that the real motivation on keeping the bogus claim of rampant racism up is for monetary and political profit.
So frustrating. And please, I know this is based on a true story, and I empathize for any real-life victims that are portrayed in this film, but there are times when we must acknowledge the goodness that has come from 100+ years of struggling for equality. Things are better now, they just are.

3. Codename: Geronimo – Killing Bin-Laden
John Stockwell, the visionary director of such important historical films as the surfer flick Blue Crush and teen romance film Crazy/Beautiful has been attached to direct the film version of one of the most historical events of the 21st century: the successful mission to hunt and kill the west’s most wanted terrorist mastermind, Osama Bin-Laden.
This film apparently is told solely from the viewpoint of SEAL Team VI. Which, if politics are left out and the planning set right, will be a riveting and satisfying event. Whether or not the real goal of the mission is reveled – a straight kill order or a capture/kill mission – will remain to be seen. No stars are attached, but if Shia Lebouf is anywhere near this… man I’ve got a new operation to name.

4. Emperor
” the days following the Japanese surrender during WWII, [where] a young general must work with General Douglas MacArthur to make a decision whether or not to charge Emperor Hirohito as a was criminal.”
If Hollywood’s track record is anything, this is sure to be a tension filled, argumentative dialogue heavy struggle between the bleeding heart young general and a stick in the mud old General. With arguments on why we shouldn’t have dropped the bomb – let alone two; whether Hirohito is any different than FDR or Truman; the US Japanese interment camps and so on.
The writers are listed as Vera Blassi of Torilla Soup a romantic comedy and David Klass, who wrote the suspense thrillers Kiss the Girls and Desperate Measures. Sounds like quite the undertaking for these two. Who knows, maybe it’s a passion project. Uh-oh…
Peter Webber is attached to direct. He did the fine film – The Girl With a Pearl Earring and episodes of the HBO show Six Feet Under. We’ll see where this project goes. Unless there are some good talent cast – maybe Chris Evans as the young Gen. and Bryan Cranston as MacArthur… Wait a minute Bryan Cranston as General MacArthur – screw this film let’s do a whole film on that s.o.b.!

5. Lamb of God
Diablo “Juno” Cody is back and this time she’s directing her own screenplay. It’s the story of…
“…a young religious girl who, after a near-death plane crash, loses her faith and decides to go to Vegas to live the life of a sinner.”
Interesting, usually it’s the opposite. I wonder how the treatment of her religion will be handled by young Hollywood. It also doesn’t mention what religion the girl plans to rebel against. Could it be Islam? Maybe it’s Hindu. No, no – I’m sure of it, she loses all faith in Taoism – I guess.
Did I mention, Russell Brand stars in the film. As well as Jullianne Hough. Who? You know, the dancer from Dancing With The Stars. She was also just in Footloose (hmm… nah). She also stars with Tom Cruise in the upcoming Rock of Ages. Tom Cruise? Well that rules out Scientology.
I wonder what the British comic is gonna make the butt of all his jokes. I mean Brand is certainly not one to take jabs at other people’s expense. Will it just be full of blonde jokes and gambling metaphors? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is certain, the “young religious girl” can’t be a Christian. I mean Hollywood’s already beaten that sacred cow to death. Wouldn’t they want to do something fresh, out-of-the-box, risky, cutting edge? Wouldn’t they?
